boAt Stone 193 Pro 5W Bluetooth Speaker, IPX6, ₹999

Need a small speaker that will not die the first time it gets splashed? The boAt Stone 193 Pro is a 5W palm-sized Bluetooth speaker with IPX6 water resistance, listed at ₹999 on amazon.in (MRP ₹2,990), with 3.9★ from 1,440 ratings and 300+ bought in the past month. It ranks #3 in our Best Bluetooth Speakers Under ₹1,000 list with an overall score of 6.8/10. It earns that spot with the best water resistance, a long battery and a very small size, not with raw power.

WHO IT'S FOR

People who want a speaker for the bathroom, the kitchen, a bike ride, a trek or a balcony in the monsoon. It suits one person or a small group. It is not built for parties.

SOUND AND BASS

boAt uses a single 52mm driver with its "Signature Sound" tuning. A single 5W driver gives clear voices and decent music at room volume, but the bass is light compared with the bigger speakers here. Scores: 6.0/10 for sound and 5.5/10 for bass.

LOUDNESS

5W is enough for a small room or a bathroom, but it will struggle outdoors. That is the lowest output class in our list: 4.0/10.

BATTERY

boAt's product page and the Amazon listing both say up to 12 hours, with an 800mAh battery and Type-C charging. boAt's older support page lists 4 hours and Bluetooth 5.0 for a "Stone 193 Pro", which looks like an earlier version; we went with the current product page. Score: 7.0/10.

CONNECTIVITY

Bluetooth 5.3, an AUX port and a TF (microSD) card slot. There is no USB drive playback or FM. You can pair two units with TWS. Score: 7.0/10.

WATER RESISTANCE AND BUILD

boAt lists IPX6, which means it can handle strong water jets and heavy splashes. It is the best water protection in this list, so it scores 9.0/10. (boAt's support page says IPX7; the product page and FAQ say IPX6, so we used the lower figure.) It weighs about 220g and measures about 10 x 10 x 5cm, small enough for a jacket pocket: 9.0/10 for portability. Warranty is 1 year; register on boAt's support site.

FEATURES

• •Built-in mic for hands-free calls, one-touch voice assistant, TWS and a carry strap. No lights, no app. Score: 7.0/10.

TIPS FOR BEST RESULTS

IPX6 protects against splashes and jets, not submersion, so do not drop it in a bucket or pool. Dry the AUX and charging ports before charging. Two Stone 193 Pro units in TWS mode give a noticeable boost in volume if you need more for a small get-together.

WHAT'S IN THE BOX

• •The speaker, a Type-C charging cable, a user manual and a warranty card, per boAt. There is no AUX cable in the box, so use your own if you need one.

WHO SHOULD SKIP IT

Skip it if you want a speaker for a group or a party, or if you care more about bass than about water protection.

HOW IT COMPARES AT THIS PRICE

The Mivi Play (₹699) is similar in size with IPX4 and 12 hours for ₹300 less, with far more ratings (25K). The Blaupunkt Atomik Grab (₹999) costs the same, is four times as powerful and has IPX5, but it is much bigger.

VALUE FOR MONEY

You pay extra for the water protection and the size: 6.0/10. Watch for drops to around ₹799, which make it a much better buy.

VERDICT

The boAt Stone 193 Pro is the best waterproof Bluetooth speaker under ₹1,000 in this list. Buy it for the shower, rain or travel. Skip it if you want loud, bassy sound for a group. Check the live price, because boAt speakers often go on sale.
