Want to make paneer tikka, toast and grilled sandwiches in your microwave without crossing ₹10,000? The IFB 20L Grill Microwave (model 20PG4S) adds a dual quartz grill and combination cooking to a normal microwave. It was ₹9,990 when we checked (MRP ₹10,590), with 4.3★ from 744 ratings, 100+ bought in the past month, and the #1 rank in Microwaves with Oven & Grill. It ranks #3 in our Best Microwave Ovens Under ₹10,000 list with an overall score of 7.4/10, the best grill model here.

WHO IT'S FOR

Couples and small families who want browning and crisping for snacks and tandoori dishes, and IFB's longer magnetron warranty, but do not need to bake cakes.

SOLO, GRILL OR CONVECTION?

A solo microwave only uses microwaves: it reheats, defrosts, boils milk, makes tea and cooks simple dishes like dal, khichdi, poha and steamed vegetables. A grill microwave adds a heating element at the top, so it can also brown and crisp food such as paneer tikka, kebabs, toast and pizza. A convection microwave adds a fan and heater as well, so it can bake cakes and bread and roast like a small OTG. Under ₹10,000 most good options are solo, a few are grill, and convection models are rare. Buy for what you will really cook, not for the longest feature list.

CAPACITY AND TYPE

20 litres, which IFB says suits small families. Outside size is 45.2 cm wide, 39.1 cm deep and 26.2 cm high, and it weighs 13.32 kg. It has three modes: Micro, Grill and Micro + Grill. Capacity scores 6.0/10; type scores 7.5/10 because it can grill but not bake.

POWER

800W microwave output with 5 power levels (spec table). IFB estimates about 10.2 units a month with 25 minutes of use a day. The grill wattage is not listed. Power scores 7.0/10.

AUTO-COOK MENUS AND CONTROLS

61 auto-cook recipes, including beverages, Indian masala sabzis, steam-cook dishes, pizza, sandwiches, tandoori dishes, stuffed vegetables and rice dishes. The bullets describe a touch keypad (membrane) with one-touch Grill, Micro and Micro + Grill modes; IFB's own images also show jog dial controls. You also get auto defrost, quick reheat, a timer, multi-stage cooking and a deodorizer. Menus score 8.0/10 and controls 8.0/10.

CLEANING

The bullets say easy-clean enamel coated cavity; IFB's images call it an anti-rust stainless-steel, anti-bacterial cavity. Either way, a steam clean program is listed. Cleaning scores 8.0/10.

SAFETY

Child safety lock and overheating protection are listed. Safety scores 8.5/10.

ACCESSORIES

The box includes a starter kit along with the warranty card and manual, which is more than most solo models give. Accessories score 7.5/10.

WARRANTY

1 year on the microwave and 3 years on the magnetron and cavity, IFB's "super warranty". Warranty scores 7.5/10.

LISTING NOTES

Two cautions. First, it showed "Only 2 left in stock" when we checked. Second, at ₹9,990 it is right at our ₹10,000 limit. If it goes out of stock or the price rises, the Panasonic 20L Grill (₹8,280) is the closest alternative. The unit is made by Galanz in China for IFB, sold by Dawntech Electronics and shipped by Amazon. Value scores 6.0/10 because grilling costs ₹1,500 more than IFB's own 24L solo.

TIPS FOR BEST RESULTS

Use the grill rack only in grill mode, never in plain microwave mode. For tikka, marinate well and turn the pieces halfway. Wipe the ceiling of the cavity after grilling while it is still warm (not hot), because grease is easier to remove then.

PROS

  • ✓Grill + combination modes, 61 menus incl. tandoori

3 years on magnetron and cavity

Starter kit included
4.3★ from 744, #1 in grill microwaves

CONS AND THINGS TO KNOW

  • ✗Only 2 left when we checked
  • ✗₹9,990, right at the limit
  • ✗20L only; cannot bake
  • ✗Grill wattage not listed

HOW IT COMPARES AT THIS PRICE

The Panasonic 20L Grill (₹8,280) is ₹1,710 cheaper and includes a wire rack, but has fewer menus (38) and only a 1-year warranty. The SHARP 25L Grill (₹7,590) is bigger but lists no child lock and has far fewer ratings.

VERDICT

The IFB 20PG4S is the best grill microwave under ₹10,000 if you can get it at ₹9,990. Check stock before you plan around it.
