SOLO, GRILL OR CONVECTION?

A solo microwave only uses microwaves: it reheats, defrosts, boils milk, makes tea and cooks simple dishes like dal, khichdi, poha and steamed vegetables. A grill microwave adds a heating element at the top, so it can also brown and crisp food such as paneer tikka, kebabs, toast and pizza. A convection microwave adds a fan and heater as well, so it can bake cakes and bread and roast like a small OTG. Under ₹10,000 most good options are solo, a few are grill, and convection models are rare. Buy for what you will really cook, not for the longest feature list.

WHAT SIZE DO YOU NEED?

As a rough guide, 20 litres suits one to three people and normal reheating, while 23–25 litres fits a full dinner plate or a bigger casserole more easily and suits a family of three to five. Check your counter space too: measure the width and depth, and leave a few centimetres free at the back and sides for ventilation.

CLEANING

This is the LG's strongest point: an anti-bacterial cavity that LG says reduces bacteria and odour, and a steam clean function that softens dried spills so you can wipe them off. Cleaning scores 8.5/10, the joint highest here.

SAFETY

Child lock and an energy-saving mode that turns the display off in standby. Safety scores 8.0/10.

ACCESSORIES

The box includes a cook book, a shelf, a glass tray and rotating ring, more than most solo models here. Accessories score 7.5/10.

1 year on the product (claim with the Amazon invoice). No extra magnetron cover is listed. Warranty scores 5.0/10.

LISTING NOTES

Amazon's spec table lists a weight of 2.6 kg, which is not realistic for a 20L microwave; ignore it. LG's images also mention a quartz heater, which is a feature of LG's grill models, not this solo one. Made in India, sold by Dawntech Electronics and shipped by Amazon.

TIPS FOR BEST RESULTS

Because it is 700W, add 20–30 seconds to recipes written for 800–900W ovens. Run steam clean with a bowl of water and a little lemon juice once a week.

HOW IT COMPARES AT THIS PRICE

The Panasonic 20L (₹6,990) is ₹700 cheaper with 800W and 51 menus, but no shelf or cook book. The IFB 24L (₹8,490) costs ₹800 more for 24L, 900W and a 3-year magnetron warranty.
