Want a genuine Sony speaker that is tiny, dust-proof and lasts most of a day? The Sony SRS-XB100 is a palm-sized speaker with IP67 protection, a claimed 16-hour battery, Bluetooth 5.3 and echo-cancelling hands-free calls, listed at ₹2,489 on amazon.in (MRP ₹5,990). When we checked it had 3.9★ from 6,491 ratings and a #19 rank in Bluetooth Speakers, sold by Clicktech Retail and shipped by Amazon. It ranks #6 in our Best Bluetooth Speakers Under ₹3,000 list with an overall score of 7.1/10. Its rating is the lowest in this list, which we explain below.
WHO IT'S FOR
People who want a well-built, small speaker from a big brand for travel, the bathroom, cycling or the desk, and who care about call quality. It is not for loud parties.
SOUND AND BASS
Sony lists one 46mm full-range driver and one passive radiator, with Sony's Sound Diffusion Processor to spread sound more widely. Amazon's table says 5W and mono; Sony does not publish a wattage. The tuning is "Extra Bass", so it sounds fuller than most speakers this small, but it is still a single small driver. Note that its 3.9★ average is below every other pick here; we did not find one clear cause in the listing, so weigh that before buying. Scores: 7.5/10 for sound and 6.5/10 for bass. We do not run lab tests, so sound and bass are judged from the hardware (drivers, passive radiators, stereo or mono), brand specs and Amazon ratings.
LOUDNESS
It is one of the quieter speakers here, ahead of the JBL Go 3 but behind everything 12W and above. Score: 4.0/10.
BATTERY
Sony's help guide says about 16 hours at a medium volume (level 36), but only about 5 hours at maximum volume, which is an honest figure most brands do not give. Charging takes about 4.5 hours over USB Type-C with a 0.5A adaptor; Amazon's "16 hours" charge-time field is a copy of the playtime and is wrong. Score: 8.5/10.
CONNECTIVITY
Bluetooth 5.3 with SBC and AAC, pairing memory for several devices and Stereo Pair with a second XB100. The USB-C port is for charging only; there is no AUX, USB playback or memory card. Score: 4.5/10.
WATER RESISTANCE AND BUILD
IP67 means it is dust-tight and survives a dunk in water, and Sony adds a UV coating. It weighs about 274g and measures about 7.6cm across and 9.5cm tall, with a multiway strap for bags, bike handles or shower rails. Sony says it uses partly recycled plastic and plastic-free packaging. Build is excellent. Scores: 9.5/10 for water and dust resistance, 9.0/10 for portability and 9.0/10 for build.
FEATURES
- •Hands-free calling with echo cancelling, a battery indicator, Stereo Pair and firmware updates through the Sony Music Center app (the app is for updates only, not EQ). No lights or karaoke. Score: 6.0/10.
TIPS FOR BEST RESULTS
Stand it upright so the driver fires upward, or hang it at ear height with the strap. Keep the volume around the middle for the best battery and least distortion. Close the cap over the USB-C port before it goes near water; Sony stresses this in its guide.
WHAT'S IN THE BOX
- •The speaker, a USB-A to USB-C cable and the strap (already attached), per Sony. No adaptor. Warranty is 1 year from Sony India.

CONS AND THINGS TO KNOW

HOW IT COMPARES AT THIS PRICE
The Tribit PocketGo (₹2,064) is cheaper, lighter, IP68 and floats, with a 20-hour claim. The Tribit StormBox Mini+ (₹2,194) is bigger but gives stereo sound and an EQ app for less money. The JBL Go 3 (₹2,999) is the other big-brand mini, with a better rating but a much shorter battery.
VALUE FOR MONEY
₹2,489 for Sony build and call quality, but less sound per rupee than the Tribits: 6.0/10.
VERDICT
Buy the Sony SRS-XB100 if you want a tough, big-brand mini speaker with good calls and a long battery at normal volume. Skip it if loudness matters; at this price the Tribit and boAt picks play much louder.
