Redmi Watch 5 Lite Smartwatch, Built-in GPS, 18-Day, ₹3,699

Want a smartwatch that tracks your run without your phone and still lasts more than two weeks? The Redmi Watch 5 Lite has built-in five-system GPS, a 1.96-inch AMOLED screen, 5ATM water resistance and an 18-day battery claim. It was ₹3,699 on amazon.in when we checked (MRP ₹6,999), with 4.1★ from 1,962 ratings, an Amazon's Choice badge, 2K+ bought in the past month and a #29 rank in Smart Watches. It ranks #1 in our Best Smartwatches Under ₹5,000 list with an overall score of 8.2/10, the highest in the list.

WHO IT'S FOR

Walkers, runners, cyclists and swimmers who want real route and distance tracking on a budget, and anyone who hates charging a watch every few days. It also suits people who simply want a big, sharp screen from a large brand. Our colour checked was Black. It is sold by Clicktech Retail and shipped by Amazon.

DISPLAY

A 1.96-inch square AMOLED at 410×502 pixels (332 PPI), up to 600 nits, 60 Hz, with Always-On Display. That is one of the biggest and sharpest screens in this list. It is not the brightest (Noise's Halo 3 reaches 1000 nits), but it is easy to read outdoors. One Amazon bullet calls it a 1.85-inch screen; the title, spec table and Xiaomi's own spec page all say 1.96 inches, so we go with that. Score: 8.5/10.

BATTERY LIFE

A 470 mAh battery rated by Xiaomi for 18 days of typical use, 12 days of heavy use and about 7 days with Always-On Display. A full charge takes under 2 hours on the magnetic cable. Using GPS for workouts will drain it faster, as on any watch. This is the longest battery claim in our list. Score: 9.5/10.

HEALTH SENSORS

24×7 heart rate, SpO2, sleep and stress monitoring, plus female cycle tracking. There is no HRV or VO2 Max readout like on the boAt Chrome Horizon. Like every watch at this price, the heart-rate, SpO2 and stress readings are best used to spot trends, not as medical measurements. Score: 7.0/10.

FITNESS AND SPORTS MODES

150+ workout modes on Amazon and Xiaomi's product page (Xiaomi's FAQ says 160+), including pool swimming thanks to the 5ATM rating. Xiaomi also adds warm-up guidance and running courses in the app. Score: 8.5/10.

GPS

This is the big reason to buy it. The watch has its own GNSS chip supporting GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou and QZSS, so you can leave your phone at home and still get a route map, distance and pace. Lock-on takes a little longer than on a phone; start the workout in the open. Score: 9.0/10.

BLUETOOTH CALLING

Bluetooth calling over Bluetooth 5.3 with a built-in speaker and dual-mic noise reduction, which Xiaomi says picks up your voice from about 80 cm. Voice calls from third-party apps such as WhatsApp are not supported. Score: 7.5/10.

BUILD AND WATER RESISTANCE

The middle frame is plastic with a metallic NCVM finish (Xiaomi lists it as "Plastic (NCVM)"), with a TPU strap. It weighs 29.2 g without the strap and is 10.6 mm thick. Water resistance is 5ATM, the only swim-rated watch in this list: every other pick is IP68 or 1 ATM, which are not meant for swimming. It does not feel as premium as the metal watches here. Score: 7.0/10.

COMPANION APP

It runs Xiaomi HyperOS and pairs with the Mi Fitness app (Android 8.0+ and iOS 12.0+). You get 200+ watch faces, notes and calendar sync, weather and your health history in one place. Score: 8.0/10.

TIPS FOR BEST RESULTS

Wait for a GPS lock before you start an outdoor run. Keep Always-On Display off if you want the full 18 days. Rinse it with fresh water after a pool session. Wear it a finger's width above the wrist bone for steadier heart-rate readings.

WHAT'S IN THE BOX

• •The watch, a magnetic charging cable and a user manual with warranty notice. Warranty is 1 year.

HOW IT COMPARES AT THIS PRICE

The realme Watch 5 (₹4,589) also has built-in GPS, adds a metal body, a compass and NFC, but costs about ₹900 more and had only 57 ratings when we checked. The Redmi Watch Move (₹2,199) has a similar look and a 14-day battery but no GPS. The Noise ColorFit Ultra 4 (₹4,999) has a metal body but only about 7 days of battery and no GPS.

VALUE FOR MONEY

Real GPS, 5ATM, an 18-day battery and a 1.96-inch AMOLED for ₹3,699 is the best value in this list: 9.0/10.

VERDICT

The Redmi Watch 5 Lite is the best smartwatch under ₹5,000 for most people. Buy it for the GPS, the battery and the swim-proof rating. If you want a metal body and NFC as well, and do not mind paying more for a newer, less-reviewed watch, look at the realme Watch 5.
